Why Taiwan

At the center of the AI supply chain

Taiwan doesn’t just make the chips that run the world’s AI — it assembles the servers and manufactures the devices too.

73%1

Of the world’s foundry market

TSMC’s share of global pure-foundry revenue — fabricating for NVIDIA, Apple, AMD and Qualcomm.

40%2

Of Taiwan’s exports

Servers and AI hardware, as a share of 2026 merchandise exports — up from roughly 30% a year earlier.

Why Taiwan · why Taichung

One came for his great-grandfather’s island. One came for the semiconductors.

And Taichung itself

TSMC’s 1.4 nm fab in the Central Taiwan Science Park is running ahead of schedule — the park administration expects the first building to be finished before April 2027, and mass production could follow by mid-2028.

TrendForce, 30 July 2026, citing Commercial Times

Giant Group, the company behind Giant bicycles, moved its global headquarters into the same Taichung science park in December 2019.

David Indonesia

“I decided to come here to Taiwan to learn more — what are the cultures that my ancestors used to do.”

His great-grandparents came from Kinmen

Belgum Zachary Stephen United States

“A Taiwanese diploma says something — not just the degree, but the cultural know-how of East Asia. It holds a lot of weight.”

First came to Taiwan in high school, running a kids’ camp in Xinshe, Taichung

Cost of Living

Life in Taichung

Great food, a city that works, and a cost of living that makes a scholarship go further — without the price tag of Taipei, Singapore or Hong Kong.

$340–505

a month in Taichung, all in — housing, food and transport. Roughly a third of what the same month costs in Singapore.

134 hectares of tree-lined paths, traditional architecture, and the iconic Luce Memorial Chapel — designed by I.M. Pei. One of Taiwan’s largest green campuses, and it sits inside Taichung city: the calm is minutes from downtown, not hours.
